Fred Smith – Original Sheet Music

About Sketches and  Scores

Thank you for your interest in Sketches and Scores, a collection of musical works that showcases Fred’s creative output across more than four decades as a musician. These volumes include original sheet music in a variety of formats—handwritten, typed, mimeographed, and edited by the author himself.

Fred was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and earned a degree in Music from Western Reserve University in 1950. He was a longtime member of the Cleveland Federation of Musicians, Local 4, as well as the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the Dramatists Guild, and the National Academy of Popular Music.

Music played a central role throughout Fred’s life. He composed several musical plays that were produced both in the United States and Europe, and he wrote hundreds of original songs. An accomplished piano and bass player, Fred also performed with several local bands.

Fred was a veteran of World War II and later worked for the Department of Defense. Following his retirement, he developed an advertising evaluation system and co-founded an advertising research company with offices in Cleveland and Los Angeles.

In addition, Fred created the Deck of Chords (deckofchords.com), a musical card game and guitar teaching aid designed to make learning music more accessible and enjoyable.

Known for his love of humor, Fred delighted in telling jokes and sharing stories that brightened the lives of those around him. His optimism and positive outlook were a source of inspiration to everyone he met.

Additional volumes will be released throughout 2026. With approximately 600 songs in total, this growing collection will be made available through the website. Click Here to see Usage Agreement:
